A Reformed Foundation
Since I became a member of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, its dedication to Scripture, thoughtful theology, and meaningful ministry has deeply influenced my journey. Throughout my seminary studies, mentorship experiences, and active involvement in various congregations, I have grown both as a leader and as a devoted follower of Christ. I remain profoundly grateful and committed to the CRCNA, which has helped shape and refine my calling and gifts in ministry. And for the colleagues, friends, and mentors in the CRCNA who have helped guide me every step of the way.
Leading with Grace
"..to equip his people for works of service, so that they may build up the body of Christ.." Ephesians 4:12
The Church, as a whole, is called to ministry, not just one person. God has uniquely gifted every member of the body of Christ to serve, encourage, and build up one another. My greatest aspiration is to foster a spirit of teamwork, enabling everyone to discover and use their distinct talents. By working together, we can share the Gospel, fortify the Church, and serve our communities, all while showcasing Christ's love to the world.
Preaching That Connects
Within the Reformed tradition, the study and preaching of God's Word form the core of the church's worship and witness. Through the proclamation of Scripture, the Holy Spirit reveals the will of Christ in our lives. Hearing the word of the Lord on Sunday mornings strengthens our faith, mends our hearts, and draws us deeper into communion with God. Christ-centered sermons should be theologically grounded, pastorally sensitive, and practically relevant.
As I strive to preach with passion and humility, I am continually reminded that God's word is timeless—a profound reminder that our only comfort in life and death is belonging, body and soul, to our faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ. In today's society, the gospel message must address the struggles, questions, and hopes of every generation, inviting all into a relationship with Jesus, who is still redeeming and transforming lives every day.
God's Call
People often ask me about my calling, and for a long time, I was puzzled by what they really meant. Were they curious about the moment I first sensed God stirring my heart or the time I knew without a hint of doubt that becoming a pastor was my destiny?
The reality is, my calling hasn’t been defined by one specific moment. Instead, it has unfolded gradually through a tapestry of prayer, obedience, exploration, tears, unexpected opportunities, and sometimes even closed doors.
There have been seasons when I found myself questioning everything—wondering if I had misread God's direction for my life. Yet, even in my moments of doubt, Jesus has consistently answered those questions through the people around me.
A mentor who steadfastly encouraged me not to give up, a professor who recognized talents in me that I had yet to discover, and countless churches that welcomed me to preach time and again. I’ll never forget that one person who approached me after a sermon and said, “Thank you, I really needed that today.”
Each of these memories stands as a sacred reminder that God works through us and has a plan for our lives, even when it feels uncertain. I don’t claim to have all the answers today, but I’ve learned that following God’s lead is what truly matters. He has shown His faithfulness through both joyful days and the toughest challenges.
Now, my prayer is that my calling isn’t merely about what lies ahead or having everything figured out. Instead, I want to focus on trusting the One who walks beside me. As I step into this next chapter of my life, I hope to be a blessing to others, just as so many have been a blessing to me.
